Bruce Trail Day
Limehouse Memorial Hall, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

This will be an opportunity to hike along the trail and see the remains of the limekilns and powderhouse structures. More information on this event at www.brucetrail.org

Last year, dozens came to Limehouse and explored the limekilns while hiking the trail. Information about the Society was available in the Limehouse Memorial Hall. Folks hiked early and stayed for lunch or came for lunch and then hiked. Limehouse Kiln Blend coffee was offered. The wildflowers were at their peak, and many visitors took great photos.

The Limehouse Kiln Society received a $29,000 grant from The Ontario Trillium Foundation. The following description is taken from the Ontario Trillium Foundation's website:

Powder Magazine Restoration Project c/o Limehouse Kiln Society
$29,000 over one year to restore the historically significant Powder Magazine, an 1800s structure related to the limestone industry that is located along the Bruce Trail in Limehouse.

The Society has already approached and hired Gerry Inglis (a well known and respected stonemason from Glen Williams). He hopes to start work on the Powder magazine toward mid or late June. The Society is involved in a 3-way management agreement with Credit Valley Conservation and the Town of Halton Hills. The Society hopes to document the site thoroughly before work begins so as to keep an accurate record of the restoration process. Credit Valley Conservation is also installing new entry gates, as well as fencing for the whole demised area which is badly needed. It is expected that this will be done shortly.
