Annual General
Meeting Presidents Annual Report
for the LImehouse Kiln Society
The Limehouse Kiln Society has continued to be actively engaged within the community over the past several months. We continue to be present at the Bruce Trail Days both in the spring and fall. We were once again part of the planning committee for the Mayors Annual Heritage Golf Tournament held in June at Blue Springs in Acton. A portion of the proceeds from this tournament go to local heritage preservation projects. The society was also part of the Acton quarry open house last fall. We were also publicized in the Community Activity and Service Guide for Halton Hills. The Retired Teachers of Ontario - District #15 made a donation for interpretive signage for the powder magazine which will be developed this fall. Last fall the society published its first newsletter known as The Keystone which was designed and developed electronically by Susan Cox, Lesley Hymers and Cathy Wilson. The publication has received many positive comments and is available on line through our website. The printing costs were generously covered by Ian Duff and Janice Gee of JC Duff Sand & Gravel Ltd. in Limehouse. The Limehouse Kiln Society was also the recipient of a $5000 grant from the TD Canada Trust Friends of the Environmnet to be used for trail enhancements in the area of the drawkiln. A presentation was made to members of council last fall as well giving them an update of the kiln societys activities. Since early 2006, Credit Valley Conservation has been working with Ontario Heritage Trust to develop Terms of Reference as it pertains to the drawkiln and are continuing to meet with them on a regular basis. We are now at the point of inviting the interested parties to an onsite meeting to assess the site and prepare for quotes for the proposal. There is much interest among professional groups. The kiln society was also honoured in February by the Halton Hills Chamber of Commerce as part of the Civic Pride Award that was presented to the community of Limehouse. In August the society was nominated by the Town of Halton Hiils and recognized by the Ontario Heritage Trust for the restoration of the powder magazine project under the Built category. The kiln society will be recognized tomorrow by Credit Valley Conservation for our financial support toward trail enhancements near the drawkiln at the new bridge over Black Creek in the Limehouse Conservation Area. Our brochures will be updated
shortly with some name changes. The society thanks Ian Duff and Ken Zimmerman
for their past years of support and contribution. We are also very fortunate to have Mr. Mark Frawley of the Niagara Escarpment Commission volunteer as our webmaster. Check us out at our website:
