Location of Kilns

The lime kilns and the powder house are located in the Limehouse area portion of the Credit Valley Conservation Authority. This area is laced with sections of the Bruce Trail. Some kilns or remnants of the kilns and this industry in Limehouse are visible to the users of the trails

Walking Tour of the Kilns

The lime industry was an integral part of the village of Limehouse in the mid - 1850s. We have identified 15 kilns and the powder house that could be part of the preservation plan.
We'd like to take you on a short walking tour of the kilns so you can see the area and conditions of the kilns.

Bruce Trail Entrance

This is the opening of the trail just off 22nd Sideroad and Fifth Line. The majority of the kilns are in this area. Several are also found on the Blue Circle property to the East.

Examples - Draw or Shaft Kiln

Pot or Set Kiln

Consists of a pot-like hole ( 8 ft X 10 ft)
